Sharpening your tools is one of the most oh
I don’t know if it is intimidating as much as it is, it is hard to do. And what happens
or why that is is that we spend most of our time on the lathe turning when we have to
actually probably spend that much more time on the grinder sharpening or learning how
to sharpen, how to manipulate the tools so you get a good edge on them. So grinding is
very important on this. Now I like to grind personally on just a regular bench grinder.
I want to make sure that I select at least a 8 inch wheel, a 6 inch is o’kay but after
they get too small the tools, the bevel back here on a small wheel gets very hollow ground.
It makes it a little harder to use. It is harder to use the tool. So I like the 8 inch
grinder. Nowadays you can get all sorts of kind of wheels on these. Look for a wheel
that is designed to grind high speed tool steel. There is pink. There is white. There
is kind of a gray one. The wheel that comes with your usually most cheap grinders, that
kind of grayish black one that is for your garden tools, not for your tool steel. So
look for a grinder that has the least aluminum oxide wheel on it as far as when you are choosing
an 8 inch. As far as speed goes, I do like a slower speed but that’s not mandatory by
