hello Joan long time no see can you tell us what is this shop about ? we are selling “counted cross-stitch” for example this special one also scenery one cute bear ! yes, comic toy this one also beautiful too it looks so special it is Western-stitch counted cross-stitch can be so colorful this looks so real …… and…..
where is source come from ? some are from Korea such as this one…. design pattern of this brand stitching instruction and…..
there are many products yes, there are wedding design below one is ” The twelve apostles ” it is made by cross-titch
so beautiful this is a long long time pattern design but still simple and look-good and this one… counted cross-stitch it can be made for cushion and in picture-framed I see you have many works outside the window yes….there are again this is Western-titch ……………………… it is given by a photo and replicated to counted cross-stitch this one is made of “bling bling” this brand is ………………….. it looks very soft effect it can be made to a wallet and bag also mirror-case a clock as well clock …..
a real working clock, not a decoration I see key-chain a 3-D bean-titch it is practical for made-up all made by hand it can be made from this sample paper here okay Joan, can you demonstrate how to counted cross-stitch ? yes, l can show good, let’s prepare your show let’s show viewers about counted cross-stitch we have look up the graph first from the graph, look for the “alphabet” for example you are talking this specific one graph learn to read the graph in very beginning this one “O” and match it to this chart “O” represents of this color sting BLANC okay, matching colors…?
yes, looking for the color number then pick one string among the bunch, from the horizontal knot only one learn how to pick one, out of this bunch does it count for thickness ?
yes fold to both end 14 CT cloth using two threads and 3 strings for 11 CT ………………………….. we have to find the center point of this cloth …………………… the center point of this….graph ……………….. from there to here is 80 and this point is the center from here to there is 60 30 to the center so we start from the center point just right of the center of fold marks upper right starting here and penetrate without making tie white thread isn’t good for showing…? but it is white color design
yes it is what original color is here….. there are two “O”, so stitch two cross “X” let me close and focus I see there are star “✽” and “O” I am doing “O” now “✽” is matching to this color O is BLANC the ✽ is 3756 this number is the name of this thread is this standard ?
yes all look for DMC as standard it is a France-brand most likely follow its brand string to match …………………………… there are two “O”, so let finish them first do you get lost from stitching ? yes, so we have to quite and concentrated is it necessary start from center ? it can make sure space enough for the stitching, otherwise could be no room for the rest in fact many people did out of space ………………….. it can be balance overall from the center continue now from lower left to upper right … are you doing a cross? all cross stitching is make Diagonal lower left to upper right please do slowly because camera too close will it pick a wrong hole ? there is skill for do you need skill for basic sawing ? there is a simple format, such no need to flip-over to look for holes every time simply this cloth have all holes !!!
yes best to mount on the “ring” hold the needle this way hold by index finger and scratch 45 degree angle it is to feel the holes do you the needle head ?
yes 45 degree yes, you can feel the location and see ? I see nothing !!!
ha ha only you can feel the trench, right ? yes……
you know where is now once you feel it right, penetrate it up 45 degree you said it is cross-stitching ?
correct ! let me chance thread color?
no need, I assume viewers see it and there is color thread later always from lower left to upper right then it repeats twice “O” so disclose the thread at the end lower left is that always cross “X” stitching ? yes, that’s why it is easy one ………………………….. try a slow motion super slow I guess some viewers may not see it clearly lower left to upper right go back start from lower right to upper left it is a cross now it is repeatedly format, X it should be a pattern, always from one to another end ? yes, always start from lower left lower left from our camera angle ?
yes then diagonally to upper right lower left it looks lower right ? how to locate lower left? it is lower right of this checkered but actually it is lower left from this checker repeatedly your so-called “stitch method ” it is easy to find out by it “XXX” cross-stitch see ! all checkered with XXX let me have a closer look I feel the white thread isn’t too contract to the cloth I can try this one ” A ” to look for the threads color DMC 310 Black then match to the thread card there 310 just like before, pick from the horizontal knot learn to pick is very important cotton thread is easy mess-up just pick one out from side no mess this threads card is already …. I prepared all well before started I organize well first because there are 447 color threads you have do by yourself with those needed all by you ?
yes, I prepared DMC threads in order I didn’t explain well how to needle thread yes, it was hard to see now the thread fold even at this fold end, get a needle to …… this fold end ? this end, the thread being fold tighten and pass thru needle thread ends are here fold end is here how to locate the spot ? not center simple by counting the checkers ….. normally in order, from one pattern to another because we skip so how accurate to do so for this “A” we are here this is 10 checkers where ? the big black box all marks here from here to there is 10 checkers and also here total of 21 checkers count 2,4,6,8,10… 10 ! 2,4,6,8,10 plus 1 checker mark here from this line count 10 checkers 2,4,6, 16 checkers 2,4,6 2,4,6 here I am stitching this symbol below A is needle penetrate from above or below ? always from lower left diagonally to upper right once again, this is lower left no tie beneath go thru the ring here and tight well is that you can start anywhere ?
yes lower left to upper right stupid question: what if the thread not long enough? you can end up and restart at same place later I will teach how to end and restart there are 3 checkers there are 1,2,3 unfinished stitching and now return to make cross stitching from lower right to upper left this time every time treat it as a single “X” lower right to upper left lower 3 checkers done and now the vertical, 1,2 ,3, 4, 5, 6, 7 7 and 1/2 stitch started from lower left by this method, both sides are looking the same this one one stupid question: what if got a wrong place, a slightly apart, could be affected the picture-look ? yes, you have to undo the thread(s) this stitching method is able to release this way can avoid the mistake without cut the thread the is a “safe knot” now I can undo it no cut is needed and keep using it back trimming will cause more “thread head” let me repeat by scratching needle, you can easily find the hole with feeling black thread is easy to compare 2, 4, 6, and 7 now going backward while going backward, also need to care for the pattern design, i.e. adjacent checker …….there is 3 checkers….. question: you just done the lower base of 3 then go vertical one is there any formula way to do ? because this whole thing is uneven not randomly but a formula way to do so ? just knowing how to be a human move forward at the time but also leave a backup road so both sides will be same I did “half stitching” / half-way up so…… why half-way ? so that there is room for me backward that means you’re not go backward all the way, instead go side-way if there is….. on the way I see what you mean “extension” if you are ignored XXX bottom then XXX stop here and XXX on right, then the thread stop and “flyover” / “overpass” without stitching that makes the bottom side chaos …. will it influences the work appearance ?
no, but once put on picture frame smooth bottom look better if the bottom surface is uneven or rough the picture will look ups and downs I see you can’t “Chaotic” only beginner will do ?
yes so it is better to ask people who knows this way of stitching is save thread and “clean” extend on the way this route need research per time, like here, take a look before stitching for example half-way go, half-way back here XXX individually half-way again to upper right until another half-way back to original the bottom side will appear same “butterfly” shape individually, XXXXXX all the way until end, you need to cut the thread and make knot if you don’t cut it, the thread will directly “flyover” to there and a leftover thread existed you have to…..no straight rule but better half-way go and half-way back to make a complete X bottom side can be the picture…. not so pretty but at least not chaos this way makes smoother if bottom side too many thread-heads, once picture framed with a convex area for example, a nose with different color threads, a big thread-head could pop-up the nose area, it looks ugly try make the bottom side “clean” you see the bottom side, it keep clean, no such “flyover” thread the thread looks bad here if I do “flyover” here so if you do half-way go / half-way back, less chance of this “flyover” effect let’s assume it is done now how to end the threading ? this kind of cloth do have 2 layers the needle is now on above layer it doesn’t influences on front side because of two-layers let me do once more not seen on front side end the threading by put under the same graph same color that is …. make a cut here and safe not to be seen any will it be loosen ?
cotton thread is easily self-knotted if this isn’t for framed, and it is made for cushion you can make one more time vertically beside the horizontally it makes sure safe then cut it without the thread-head being seen don’t end outside, the reason is….let me do one example why not doing outside this black thread will show-up at the front side say if you make something between two eyes it is too obviously, like a knife “cut” above the nose ridge it is not a good practice
a hint most people don’t aware of this issue always start and end at original point the same place ?
yes, black to black, red to red light color thread is not obvious though ?
except white thread, other don’t work what else need to aware ? for example of this “outline” what is that outline? it is about …..
very quick completed ? time matter…. all in XXX but the eye, mouth and nose don’t show the details, i.e. eyebrow outline is then the solution something like this mirror reflection eyebrow and mouth are used to be XXXX the outline can highlight the profile outlook those eye and hand are more clear now now I will demonstrate viewers how to outline not always XXX, sometime use different stitching there are two stitching style of cross-stitch X and outline ! ……… is there third style ?
half-stitch only half cross X so there are 3 styles this outline is very important, but many afraid of 14 CT use one thread only two threads will be thickness yes, it doesn’t look nice it is one thread how to outline ? we need to look at this checker and count the number this is equal to that it is a different way to start the stitch with single thread, unlike double threads with a “circle” to get through just like the way we end the stitching stitch into the cloth under its color it seems losing …. you can make another one next to it, turn out a fixed one done and hardly lose we can start now outline starting from upper left then continue to second lower right 1, 2 checker lower right of 2nd checker if the thread not seem okay, twist it to become more straight line this one, 1,2,3,4, it was from upper left toward, now it is start from lower right upward here up and down here with skill, must be line up continue from the previous end if this thread look too lose, dig it out and try twist it right we can use fingers to twist it look nice now it was up and down here, now start from here try to match the previous end don’t let it discontinued look the outline appears now and clear but it looks like a red color thread is this red ?
it is a symbol for example this yellow ” ✩ ” symbol means a color thread look up the chart 742 DMC 742 a yellow thread ……………….. this black is very similar to the one here are they look alike ? if no red, both colors could be confused so that red color for distinguish if black next to grey color will be very confused that is with ✤ 310 and 413 the red color make easy to read DMC 413 is actually grey color both colors are to similar there are 400+ colors even orange color has 14 different one as well 13 red colors just like “Pantone” color chart yes it can be color in gradually purple, for example, there are many different purple in this collection this symbol “I” is easy for different green it is very important to know how to read this chart for the beginners good question this is gray thread now I will do here I skip here with two checkers I show you a bad result of “flyover”….bottom side there is a long black thread appear outside but you can hide it by stitching underneath those above this is wrong demonstration hide it by….. needle thru here, under the gray color thread show up here, so I stitch under here without appear above now, both front and bottom side look similar otherwise, the “flyover” stitching doesn’t look nice let me see stitch up from lower left diagonally second checker, 1, 2 upper right 2 checkers empty left 1, 2 , 2 checkers skipped this is outline but it doesn’t seem special to me…. in fact, the area here is not too obvious purpose is to outline the profile but for the eye portion will see the different this hair line and I can try let me end the stitching here by under same color thread cut it let me do this, should be clear enough the thread is this one I will stitch this hair line two XX this up and down here I will start here on the bottom, I will stitch under hold it by finger do one more stitch in case lose then stitch up from here down same as here and then stitch these two up here line it up, very important now I stitch this part there is a space blank, 1 checker below these 2 are diagonal line, then next 2 are horizontal now I stitch into this yellow area diagonal black thread in line up without space two stitch if no outline made, it is hard to see the hair line so does the eye, the outline can highlight its profile, that’s why so important to know-how for example, if just this black only and without eyebrow outline, it doesn’t look like an eye you can compare with this completed work look, this is very important here doesn’t clear but once to the eyes, mouth, hand and the dress the profile is clear even the collar is outlined by the black thread let me outline the eye first then you can see the differences let’s look at the color with symbol ” ♡ ” and match the location ? yes thread DMC 311 ……………………………. 311 is blue thread pick-up from the horizontal knot again it is hard to tell ….. there is a skill, pick from the horizontal knot not able to pull out from vertical what do you mean “horizontally” ? the thread like this let’s take it out it’s more than one thread ?
it is one whole fold it both end make a circle put it back tie it like this I see each color comes with many thread ? one whole bunch included a set of 6 individual DMC thread one bunch of 6 fold the thread of 14 CT pick one out of 6 horizontal ….. the cotton thread is so easy tangle once you have handled before this way to pick-out thread is okay smooth I will mess it up if I do you can try let me try a wrong doing of some people do if I pull these two threads here, it can’t be moved ….. it is hard to pull out all in tangle useless…?
so pull one thread at a time even you pull from the both end, it didn’t work out too but pull out one thread may work, but all in tangle untangle is not easy-task…. only pick one cotton thread you need to pull out one by one if all needed….. this part can be next episode how to thread one by one…. what is the standard length ?
100 cm usually , equal to 1 meter one bundle of thread is 8 meter long and cut 1 meter for the color chart here I have 3 threads together otherwise being in tangle now we go back to Blue 311 let me find the needle my channel is usually uncut / not edit, so viewers may find it too long you can skip it if you find too long now fold the 311 thread and look for the position on this picture I am stitching this eye with 3 checkers penetrate from lower left to upper right pass through the ring circle 3 checkers are done now and hide it under the same color thread start new stitching from here always start from the identical color thread why I ended up here, otherwise there will be a “line” above nose ridge so that’s why I will cut this thread I thought you made a “flyover” intentional same as here, 3 checkers all about making XXX done and hidden always under the identical color area there is blue with ” A ” after that the eye will be appeared 3325 3325 pull out the thread from horizontal knot using different blue colors to make the eye the rest of white are uncompleted there is no eyebrow yet can’t highlight the eye yes, can’t show the impression of eye not-a-live that’s why outline is so important a good designer cross-stitching is very simple how long it takes to finish this work ? by hour, it takes 6-7 for this picture normal office hour, from 9am – 6 pm, 1:00-2:00pm lunch time it is a piece of handcraft for gift, e.g. birthday all by heart, made piece by piece it is also about patient ………………… there is some boys making for girlfriend those who are in love….. I do encourage boys come forward to ask me boys, don’t be shy I know you teach people for free ?! yes, cross-stitching is traditional thing and easy to learn only time and patient are needed I hope more people know-how this handcraft can teach people feel in peace I do believe not only this X-stitch, but other like sawing and knitting too these all about concentration skill today, we are happy to have Joan to show us say good-bye to out viewers
